Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate……
So, yesterday I went to my girlfriend’s, Evelyn, for Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner was lovely and filled with family and friends, because she is such a good cook. The turkey was very moist, not dry, and the dressing was fabulous, along with a slamming macaroni and cheese. Well, of course, I stuff my stomach too much and so I had to take a break from the turkey and dressing to save room for dessert. I waited about one hour and I was back at the food table ready for my sugar rush. When I first arrived my eyes had caught a glimpse of this yummy German Chocolate cake and now I was ready for a taste. The cake was moist with a rich chocolate flavor and creamy caramel coconut icing that was mouth-watering. Let me just tell you that the cake was well worth the wait.
I was walking back to my apartment from dinner and began thinking about some new designs that I wanted to start working on when I arrived home. So, I arrive home and walk into the sewing room, I look at my sewing table and I see this clutch purse I just finished before dinner. I stopped and just smile associating the chocolate purse with the chocolate cake. I knew I should have taken a piece home with me! The Cutest place for just a little change….

Well, I was going out a couple of weeks ago and I was taking one of my clutch bag designs. So, when I started packing my purse, I realize that I just didn’t want to put my money and credit cards in my bag just loose. This is when I decided to put in my card holder for my credit cards, but what about my paper money and coins. Yes, people do still carry coins! Well, this night I just let the money run loose in the clutch, but I promised myself that this would be the last time. So, the next day when I got up, I when downtown, purchase this cute metal frame and my new pouch/coin purses were born. The purse is really not that big, but it is just big enough to get my credit cards, paper money and yes, my coins inside. I tried to get my blackberry inside of the purse, but no go! So, now I am back off to do some sewing and to do my other favorite hobby, cooking. This time it is a Red Velvet Cake and it was past down to me from my great grandmother, Delia. By the way, this is also the name of this coin purse. You can check out all my designs at www.juliasherrydesigns.etsy.com. Enjoy!
The Black and White thing….

Well, I have always had this thing for the colors of black and white since I was little. When I see the colors, always paired together, I just get this sense of a timeless couple. So, when I am hunting for fabrics for my clutches, I just seem to just gravitate to the combination. This is my lastest design, “Sophia”, and she is a beauty. Talking about making a statement when you meet friends out for dinner. My “Sex in the City ” friends gave me rave compliements. Black and white has trimuph again!

Just in time for Halloween,”Willow”

Well, I have been sewing my butt off as of lately getting ready for the Christmas season, but then I realize that I still had a couple of fun holidays to go before Christmas, so why not just have a little fun. So, last month, I found this fabric online while surfing the web. I purchase the fabric and just left it sitting in the box, until I got caught up with my orders. Well, I finally found the free time to design this new clutch. I think that the clutch has a great look for the Halloween season. Just a little spooky and elegant, all at the same time. I guess it has a quirky look to it, but I think that it works. So, I salute the idea of being quirky yet elegant all together to make this great clutch.
So, now that Halloween has been conquer, I am now on the search for a great piece of fabric for Thanksgiving. Well, I am off again to surf the web and head back into the sewing room!

Janet – Gorgeous Asian inspire clutch

I have come to realize that fabric shopping can be so much fun. Every time I go out to buy some supplies to make a purse, I always see some new fabric print that catches my eye and I have to buy at least one yard of the print. Well, case in point, I went looking for red dupioni silk and I saw this print and I could not walk out of the store without buying a yard.
So, I buy the fabric and I get home and my roommate asked can she take a look at the new fabric I purchase and she sees this print and goes “WILD” about it. She keeps asking me everyday, for a week, when am I going to make a bag from it and I keep telling her that I need to finish my orders first before I can branch out and work on the new purses. Finally, I got caught up with my orders and then I got a chance to make this new clutch. I must admit that since I have made this purse, the fabric design looks even more gorgeous.

The collection….

Well, today is Labor Day, but I am still working! Since, I wasn’t able to go to the great state of Alabama to see my family because of work obligations, I decided to take a second look at my bags. So, as I was glancing at the collection, I felt that something was missing. Sure, every purse was made from a great print and the inside linings gave each clutch that extra ”pop” of luxury, but they still felt off balance. Then it just “dong” on me that each of the clutches need a name, something that me and my customers could always identify with in the years to come.
So, I laid out all 34 bags and gave each one of them a name. The two best sellers are named Julia and Delia. The name ”Julia” belongs to my mother and the name “Delia” belong to my great-grandmother. The two women who taught me how to sew and gave me my passion for fashion. The bag in the picture above is named after my godmother “Judy”. She always has some type of flower in her house that is blooming year round.
My collection can be found at www.juliasherrydesigns.etsy.com, so take a minute and have a peak. My goal is to have at least 100 purses to my collection by the end of October, so this means that I am going to need a lot more names and if you have any suggestions, please leave it in my comment box. Keep smiling and have a great week!

Black and white clutch is always SEXY
As a child growing up in the south, I was always taught to associate the color of black with mourning, then the color of white as “not to be worn after Labor Day. Well, thank goodness for New York City, where most of the fashion rules are broken and the only rule that is enforce is about personal style. I love seeing people in NYC, Atlanta, LA and Vegas, striking out on their own and taking fashion risks. Just letting their personal style and taste dictate what they feel sexy in wearing to work or just going to dinner with friends.
I got invited to anniversary party for a couple of my friends and we’re asked to wear white to the party, in the middle of the month of June. So, I found the perfect outfit to wear but, I refuse to wear white shoes. I found this pair of “to die for” red patent leather pumps with a little peep-a-boo toe. So, now all I needed to do was to design a clutch, but not just any purse, something sexy. The next day while out buying supplies , my eye caught a glimpse of the print. A new clutch bag was born. I decide to lined this clutch bag with red dupioni silk for that nice contrast of color, plus it matched my shoes. When, I tell you that my whole look was a hit at this party and the compliments on my styling were over the top! But the bag was the biggest hit and I made sure to open the bag so everyone could see the red lining.
So, don’t be afraid to take some risks in fashion and in life. You can check out my designs at www.juilasherry.etsy.com. Have a great day and keep smiling!!! Sherry
